Birmingham Knife Rampage Suspect Charged

The suspect accused of launching a vicious knife rampage in Birmingham has been charged with murder. 27-year-old Zephaniah McLeod was remanded in custody after a brief hearing, conducted by video link, at Birmingham Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday. McLeod, who hails from Nately Grove, Selly Oak, Birmingham remained silent through the course of proceedings, having only spoken to confirm his name. The accused is set to again appear before magistrates this Thursday. According to court documents, the 27-year-old has been charged with the murder of Jacob Billington, 23, who died as a result of being stabbed during the knife rampage.

During the vicious knife rampage, Jacob Billington was stabbed to death while two other victims were left in a critical condition. While one of the two, a 20-year-old woman is now said to be in a stable condition, a 30-year-old man remains in a critical condition as a result of the injuries sustained during the knife attack. Over the course of the ninety-minute attack, it is alleged the McLeod attacked another seven victims. The court heard the names of the alleged victims of attempted murder charges against McLeod, which included: Dimitar Bachvarov, Migle Dolobauskaite, Thomas Glassey, Michael Callaghan, Shane Rowley, Rhys Cummings and Ryan Bowers.

In a moving tribute, Jacob Billington’s family paid tribute to the youngster. “Jacob was the light of our life and we have been devastated by his loss. He was a funny, caring and wonderful person who was loved by every single person he met. He lit up every room with his boundless energy and witty humour and the loss of such a special person will be felt by all who knew him for years to come,” a statement read. Chief Superintendent Steve Graham added, “Our thoughts and sympathies are with Jacob’s family and friends after receiving such shocking news, particularly for those who were sharing their night out with him.”
